Winterising Your Mobile Home: Essential Tips to Protect Your Mobile Home
As the colder months approach, preparing your mobile home for winter is crucial to protect it from frost damage, damp, and costly repairs. With the right steps, you can ensure your mobile stays in great condition and ready for the next season.
1. Protect Your Plumbing
The single most important winterising task is having your plumbing system correctly drained down. Frost can cause pipes to burst, leading to expensive damage. Keep in mind that your warranty may be void if this step is not done correctly.
- Use Mobile Home-Safe Antifreeze: Pour into plugholes, toilet bowls, and cisterns to prevent freezing
- Shower Protection: Remove the shower hose and showerhead, as any water left inside can freeze and cause damage.
2. Keep Your Mobile Fresh and Dry
Damp and condensation can cause mould and mildew over the winter months. Follow these tips to keep your mobile home in top shape:
-
Air It Out: Open doors and windows to thoroughly ventilate and freshen the interior. Keep all internal doors open throughout your mobile over the winter months.
-
Move Furnishings: Place removable furniture in the centre of rooms and leave space between each piece to reduce condensation.
-
Curtains and Bedding: Take down curtains and take them, along with bedding, home to prevent musty smells and damp build-up.
-
Mattresses: If possible, stand mattresses on their edges and leave cupboard and wardrobe doors open to allow airflow.
-
Fridge & Freezer: Empty, defrost, and clean thoroughly, leaving doors open to prevent mould growth.
-
Absorb Moisture: Place bowls of salt around the mobile to soak up excess moisture.
By taking these simple but essential steps, it will help keep your mobile home protected throughout the winter, saving you from costly repairs and keeping it in tip-top condition for the spring.
